The Swope Park Rangers have signed 18-year-old forward Wilson Harris to a full USL contract, the club announced on Tuesday. Harris, a product of the Sporting Kansas City Academy, has made six USL appearances since joining the Rangers on an Academy contract in March. The signing is pending league and federation approval.
After making his professional debut for SPR in their 1-0 win over OKC Energy FC on May 5, Harris became the Rangers’ second youngest scorer in club history when he notched his first USL goal against Fresno FC on June 17. He has started three of six appearances for an SPR side that occupies fourth place in the USL’s Western Conference with an 8-4-4 record.
A native of Los Angeles, Harris joined the Sporting KC Academy ahead of the 2017-18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy campaign. He led the Sporting KC U-19s with 18 goals in 17 league appearances, helping the team to a third-place finish in the Frontier Division and a berth in the Development Academy Playoffs last month.
Harris previously earned U.S. Soccer Development Academy West Conference Best XI honors in both 2016 and 2017, recording eight goals for the Seattle Sounders FC U-16s in 2016 and scoring 19 times for the Real So Cal U-18s in 2017.
Harris received his first call to the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team in May, joining a 20-player squad under head coach Tab Ramos that traveled to face Honduras for two friendlies in San Pedro Sula. Harris has also represented the United States at the U-16 and U-18 levels, notably guiding the U-18 MNT to a fifth-place finish at the 2015 Open Nordic Cup in Sweden.
