Sporting Kansas City's resurgence has just so happened to correspond with the return of a veteran presence along the backline.
Left back Seth Sinovic has started in each of Sporting KC's last two matches, a 1-0 away win over the Houston Dynamo followed by a 2-0 road victory over Los Angeles Football Club on Saturday. The Kansas City native reflected on the club's recent success Tuesday night when he joined host Nate Bukaty for a new episode of The Sporting KC Show on Sports Radio 810 WHB.
Sinovic, a Kansas City native and integral member of Sporting KC since 2011, chalked up Saturday's win in Los Angeles as one of the best team performances of the season. The defender also spoke highly of the new Banc of California Stadium, where Sporting KC handed LAFC their first-ever home loss in the venue.
Another pivotal Western Conference matchup awaits this Saturday as Sinovic and second-place Sporting KC get set to host the third-place Portland Timbers at Children's Mercy Park. Sinovic lauded Portland's attacking trio of Diego Valeri, Sebastian Blanco and Samuel Armenteros but was especially complimentary of the team's defense, which he believes was key to the Timbers' 15-game MLS unbeaten run that ended Saturday in a 2-1 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
In addition to getting Sinovic's thoughts on a resolute Portland side, Bukaty also welcomed Timbers color TV analyst Ross Smith to the show. Smith pointed out that Portland owns three wins and two draws over their last five away games, but a forthcoming road trip will put head coach Giovanni Savarese's side to the test. The Timbers must visit D.C. United at 7 p.m. CT tonight before making the trip back west to face Sporting KC on Saturday.
