A new episode of the Sporting KC Show Podcast aired Wednesday night as hosts Nate Bukaty and Carter Augustine were joined by Sporting Kansas City duo Roger Espinoza and Seth Sinovic to preview the decisive second leg of the Western Conference Semifinals against rivals Real Salt Lake at Children's Mercy Park.
Sunday's highly anticipated showdown will be the first MLS playoff match played in Kansas City since Sporting KC ousted Real Salt Lake on penalties in the 2013 MLS Cup. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT on ESPN and a limited number of tickets remain available via SeatGeek.com.
With Sporting KC and Real Salt Lake level on aggregate after last weekend's 1-1 draw in the first leg, Espinoza is ecstatic for his first home playoff appearance since 2012. The Honduran was not part of Sporting KC's championship team in 2013, having joined English club Wigan Athletic prior to returning in 2015. That search for his first MLS Cup title is a major variable driving Espinoza during the postseason run.
Sinovic was the second Sporting KC player to join the show. The veteran left back missed leg one in Utah due to caution accumulation but figures to return on Sunday against an RSL side that went 3-11-3 on the road during the regular season before upsetting LAFC in the knockout round on Nov. 1. Sinovic has a notable penchant for playoff heroics, with two of his three career MLS goals standing as match-winners in the 2012 and 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs, respectively.
Bukaty and Augustine also heard from Sporting KC color commentator Matt Lawrence, who discussed why he believes Manager Peter Vermes' men should feel confident going into Sunday.
