Postgame Quotes: Swope Park Rangers 2-1 San Antonio FC

Team vs. SA

Swope Park Rangers head coach Marc Dos Santos
On the game’s ending:
“I think in the first half after it was 1-1, especially in the first half we created a little bit more opportunities, and then in the second half it was very equal I think, San Antonio wanted to play for the point. The tie was good for them, they felt that a point here was good and they made it very difficult for us to get in behind them, but we were able to in one situation and it was a PK. The center back held Kelly on the line, and Kelly was lucky with the rebound, but at the end of the day it’s three very important points.”
On the energy in the game:

“Look, the game didn’t have the level of energy that we wanted. It was a slow game on both sides, but what people have to understand is it was a very hard game for San Antonio in St. Louis, that they won, but they got a lot of pressure on them and the same thing in our last 20 minutes against LA, where the last 20 minutes we were in front of our 18 defending most of the game. It was two teams that came here two, three days after to play a game where it’s important for both, but there was a certain level of fatigue and I felt that the intensity of the game was slow, but at the end of the day when games are like that difficult because of the fatigue and you get out with the three points, that’s important.”

Swope Park Rangers forward Dane Kelly
On the 94th-minute penalty:

“I saw Tommy (Meyer) lift his head up so I moved around and then the ball went over the defender’s head and I latched on to it, but the ‘keeper was there so I stretched my leg and it ended up bouncing in the air for some reason then the guy pulled me back and we got the PK.”

On the team’s performance after playing on Saturday:

“I mean as a professional you have to do what you have to do, we know we have to win to get in the playoffs, so we came out with a game plan. Of course we don’t let them keep the ball, because they’re either going to come for a draw or get the three points, so we did that, we pressed them and then we got the three points. “
