Postgame Quotes: Swope Park Rangers 4-0 Rio Grande Valley FC

Gonzalez vs. RGV

Swope Park Rangers head coach Marc Dos Santos
Thoughts on the game:

“Probably our best first half of the season. We came in very well with players that were very hungry, with players that wanted to prove something. The game in RGV (on May 21) wasn’t our type of game and we spoke about that, it’s not the games you have to play so we wanted to prove that the image we left in RGV wasn’t the real image that we are, so I think that it was a good message when it came to the fact that we played an opponent that was the hardest probably in USL at the moment, six games without losing, and our first half was fantastic and I think it dictated pretty much the rest of the game. Second half, we controlled a little bit more without the ball we were more dangerous in counter-attack than normal and that’s how we scored the fourth. Overall, I think our best first half this season and a deserved win from start to finish.”

On Kevin Oliveira’s performance:

“When you’re a young player like Kevin, we knew bringing him here – the talent and the quality he has – but it doesn’t happen like that. A player that is from Africa, Cape Verde, plays in Portugal in a great organization like Benfica, then he comes here he needs time to adapt and I think Kevin – every day we see more and more of him and this is a player that can be an incredible story in two or three years for the club and the organization.”

On Mark Anthony Gonzalez:

“It’s good that we have these options, you know Ayrton came on today, it was his first couple of minutes with the club we have one of our best signings in this part of the season, Dane Kelly, that’s going to be like a new signing because he only played two games. So to have Mark Gonzalez at this level doing well and you still have guys like Dane Kelly or Ayrton that are going to bring a plus or even Kris Tyrpak that’s coming back from an injury, and now he’s slowly coming back, I think it’s only going to give us more and more options.”

Swope Park Rangers forward Mark Anthony Gonzalez
On the game:

“We did all the little things right, we talked about our techniques going through the week of practice, well the two days of practice before the game. This was one game where we just did everything right, everything we needed to do. Our little things going forward are on defense, so it’s a good result we’re very happy with it especially getting a 4-1 loss to them at their place, it feels good to give it back.”

On working hard for a spot on the team:

“I’m trying to fill in a spot, Dane (Kelly) is a great forward, probably coming back next week, but trying to do the best I can while I’m up there.”
