The first-ever meeting between the Swope Park Rangers (1-5-3, 6 points) and expansion club Memphis 901 FC (2-6-3, 9 points) will take place Wednesday night when the teams take the field at Children’s Mercy Park. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT. Tickets are available at SeatGeek.com or at the stadium box office beginning at 5 p.m. CT.
The match will be offered as a live stream on ESPN+ and additional in-game updates are available on the USL Championship MatchCenter. @SwopeRangers on twitter will be covering the match as well.
The Rangers have had success at home in their last two matches, beating Louisville City FC 3-2 and then battling for 90 minutes with Atlanta United 2 and earning a 1-1 draw. Midfielder Felipe Hernandez has been on fire recently. He has scored in three straight games and leads the team with four goals. The Rangers and head coach Paulo Nagamura will look to end their two-game home stretch on a high note.
Memphis comes into Children’s Mercy Park on a bit of a run after snapping their four-game losing streak with a draw against Birmingham on May 4. They’ve won their last two games, including a win in the second round of their Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup debut last Wednesday. Defender Marc Burch and forwards Duane Muckette and Elliot Collier lead Memphis in goal scoring, each with two.
Head coach Tim Mulqueen is trying to keep his young team trending in the right direction in their inaugural season. He is making a bit of a homecoming as he served as the goalkeeper coach of the then Kansas City Wizards from 2000-2004. Mulqueen also holds a long-standing professional relationship with U.S. Soccer legend and Memphis minority owner Tim Howard.
The Rangers continue to field a lineup of youthful talent as the season progresses. Former Sporting KC Academy player 20-year-old Hernandez (four goals, two assists), and quick-footed 20-year-old Brazilian left-back Alexsander (one goal, one assist) have stepped up their game in the 2019 season. They’ve given consistent performances for the club and have stepped up as leaders of this young team.
