For the third time in five weeks, Central Division rivals Sporting Kansas City II (3-9-5, 14 points) and Louisville City FC (10-3-3, 33 points) will lock horns as the 2021 USL Championship campaign continues Saturday night. The contest will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT and stream live on ESPN Plus.
Sporting KC II slipped to a narrow 2-1 home loss against Memphis 901 FC last Sunday, receiving a first-half goal from forward Wilson Harris after winger Enoch Mushagalusa won his team a penalty kick. Head coach Paulo Nagamura’s side dominated for extended periods of the afternoon, but Memphis emerged victorious by scoring early in either half through Kyle Murphy and Michael Salazar.
Occupying eighth place in the Central Division but only five points shy of the fourth and final playoff spot, Sporting KC II will now prepare for another battle against table-topping Louisville. Under the guidance of interim head coach Danny Cruz, Louisville has already defeated SKC II twice this season at Children’s Mercy Park. First came a 4-2 triumph on July 2 in which Kyle Greig scored twice to go with Brian Ownby and Alexis Souahy strikes. Last Wednesday, July 28, Greig and Jorge Gonzalez struck in the second half to render Ozzie Cisneros’ first professional goal in the 89th minute inconsequential..
