Swope Park Rangers forward and Sporting Kansas City Academy product Wilson Harris was named to the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team on Wednesday for a 12-day training camp that will start in Florida and end with two matches against the Honduras U-20s on May 17 and 19 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Harris is set to make his U.S. U-20 debut, joining a 20-player squad under head coach Tab Ramos that will assemble in Bradenton, Florida before traveling south for games versus Honduras, whom the U.S. U-20s defeated in the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship final. Harris has previously represented the United States at the U-16 and U-18 levels, notably helping the U-18 MNT to a fifth-place finish at the 2015 Open Nordic Cup in Sweden.
Harris was one of eight Sporting KC Academy players to sign an Academy contract with the Swope Park Rangers in March. He made his professional debut for the Rangers in their 1-0 win over OKC Energy FC last Saturday, May 5. Prior to joining the U.S. U-20 MNT in Florida, Harris will be available for selection tonight when SPR visits Real Monarchs SLC at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah.
Joining Harris for the international trip will be Sporting KC Director of Player Personnel Brian Bliss, who will serve as an assistant coach for the U.S. U-20s in Florida and Honduras.
A native of Encino, California, Harris joined the Sporting KC Academy ahead of the 2017-18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy campaign. The 18-year-old striker leads the Sporting KC U-19s with 14 goals in 13 league appearances this season.
Harris has earned Development Academy West Conference Best XI honors in each of the last two seasons, bagging eight goals for the Seattle Sounders U-16s in 2016 and scoring 19 times for the Real So Cal U-18s last year.
