Sporting Kansas City II's 2025 Preseason presented by Central Bank concluded Saturday afternoon with a late defeat to UMKC after the Roos converted a stoppage-time penalty to take a 4-3 win from SKC II at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, MO. The final preseason match was a goal fest with three first-half scores and four finishes in the second.
David Zavala, one of six newly signed trialists, found the back of the net in the eighth minute, firing home from inside the 18 off a centering pass from the left side of the pitch. UMKC would then level in the 39th before taking a one-goal lead into the break right on the cusp of halftime.
Fresh out of the break, the visitors doubled their advantage before a mass substitution of SKC II players entered the contest. Sporting then rattled off back-to-back goals in the 70th and 73rd with one coming from new signee Gael Quintero. The match opened up as both sides looked for the winner. UMKC stood strong in their own box, repelling numerous promising SKC II attacks before they were gifted a penalty kick against the run of play. They were able to convert and the match went final with UMKC taking the win.
With the end of preseason play, Sporting KC II now turns their attention to their MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season opening week match at Houston Dynamo 2. The game is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT from SaberCats Stadium and will be live-streamed on MLS Season Pass. The group will return six days later to host St. Louis City2 at Children's Mercy Victory Field at Swope Soccer Village in the 2025 Home Opener. Tickets for all SKC II matches are on sale at SeatGeek.com for just $10.
