Sporting Kansas City II's 2025 Preseason presented by Central Bank kicked off on Monday and continued Saturday when they hosted Union Omaha at Swope Soccer Village in Kansa City, MO in a preseason friendly. Omaha came out of the friendly with a 2-0 win, scoring on either side of the halftime whistle.
The first half saw both sides get a few looks at goal, with the first two coming in consecutive minutes for SKC II. In the ninth, a free kick from just beyond the 18 forced the Omaha keeper into a tough acrobatic save that he successfully made, pushing the ball just over the crossbar and out for a corner. A minute later a set piece from further out led to a shot inside the box that the Omaha netminder secured against his chest.
Omaha's first chance came in the 22nd with a headed effort ricocheting well wide of the target. Ten minutes before the break SKC Academy goalkeeper Brendan Mikuliza made a terrific save, leaping up and extending his arm to parry the ball over the net. Omaha took the lead right on the cusp of halftime with a finish from just outside the box.
After the break, first-year SKC II head coach Istvan Urbanyi made four changes and then completely reworked the lines with six more in the 60th. An elbow to the nose ended Academy midfielder Carter Derksen's day in the 65th and two more swaps came on in the 70th. Omaha doubled their lead with a penalty conversion late in the contest before the match concluded.
the 2025 preseason rolls on next week with another five days of training before a scrimmage at Swope Soccer Village against Cowley College on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT. Fans can follow everything happening with SKC II by following the club on X, Instagram and Facebook.
