SKCvHOU Quotes: "We need to learn from what happened today."

Sporting KC II Manager Benny Feilhaber

Thoughts on the match...

Houston came in prepared and ready to go. We were a step slow in every sense of the word, on the ball, and off the ball. We didn't play together as a team and we paid the price. Houston started off really fast in both of their two games and they did it again against us. The team wasn't ready.

On the positives of tonight...

There were little moments in the second half but at the same time, the game changed. We were down 2-0 at halftime and Houston changed the way they played. They played a little bit less on the front foot. They were protecting their lead. I can't say that there was anything from our team that was positive.

On Jake Davis' performance tonight at right back...

He worked hard, but I think that he's got more in his game than what we saw today. I want to see more but there were a few guys that worked hard but not effectively and not as a unit. I think Jake was one of those guys. He needs to learn how to play multiple spots. We played him as an eight and he's played as a six multiple times. As a right back he played a little at the end of last year and was ok so this is a learning experience for him. We want to broaden the number of positions that he can play.

On the Rad brother's positions tonight...

It's how they fit the team. Jahon has been doing a really good job at center back for us and tonight wasn't a great night for anybody and it wasn't for him as well. He had been doing a great job there at center back and so we're continuing his development. When Kaveh has been down it's been about where he can help us on the field. He's played a couple of different positions as well. He's played the six for us, he played the eight today but again today is hard to judge because not much went well.

On Mateo Bunbury's play for SKC II and getting called up into the Canadian national team camp...

He's got potential. Potential unfortunately doesn't matter, what matters is what you do with it. He's growing, he's still young and he's developing. I thought he had a good performance last weekend and got himself a goal. It's about building on that. Being called into the Canadian U20's is hopefully a positive for him to continue to learn and develop in that direction.

Sporting KC II forward Mataeo Bunbury

On his SKC II experience this season...

It's been great this year. We're just starting off the season and they taught us a lesson today. Next week we can bounce back, and put in a good performance. We need to learn from what happened today.

On what went wrong today...

We didn't come in with a winning mentality and you get punished at this level. Everyone is trying to make a name for themselves so you have to come in and you have got to want it.

On what his thoughts were when he found out he got called into the Canada Youth National Team Camp...

I was really happy. I have to continue to put in the work and continue to learn with the second team. I have to get minutes and continue to develop. I don't have many words. I'm just happy to be called up with Canada and to hopefully continue what my dad started.
