Sporting KC II Manager Benny Feilhaber
Thoughts on the match...
I just didn't think we competed. We got a good goal off a quick action with Josh [Coan] playing it to Julian [Vazquez] to give us a one-goal lead against a team that we gave up an early lead to last time. From then on I didn't think we competed. They won every second ball, we were slow, we weren't in good spots defensively, we let them take touches, let them past our line and nobody laid a finger on one of their players. They just continuously grew in confidence and that's what happens. When guys don't get touched the game becomes easy and we made it very easy for them today.
On Ethan Bandre in his first professional start...
I thought he was fantastic. Did everything and more that we asked. It was a very difficult position for him to come in and play his first game. He was fantastic, kept us in the game in the first half, got us to halftime at one to nothing and did everything he could. It was a perfect shot off the post and a penalty. He played an outstanding game.
On Cole McLagan getting the captain's armband in two consecutive matches...
Cole's progressed very well. He's become a real leader and is one of the guys that's shown consistency week in and week out in training. At this point, it's to be expected, that kind of performance from him. I think he'll continue to grow especially in a new position that he's started to learn to play this year. He's been fantastic and I thought he had a pretty good game.
On Julian Vazquez's offensive ability...
He's been very, very good for the majority of the year. He's a guy that has another level. When he is able to consistently be an impact player for 90 minutes, then he's going to be a very dangerous player. You can see in certain moments of the game he's a difference-maker. He made a really good run and Coan put a really good ball to him, and he had a quality finish. He's a guy we relied on this year, we will continue to rely on and we'll work to see if we can keep him going in the right direction and he can be even more of a complete player.
