Sporting Kansas City II announced today that the club will return eight players for the 2021 season.
Sporting KC II has exercised contract options for forward Enoch Mushagalusa and goalkeeper Remi Prieur. The following six players are also under contract with the club in 2021: goalkeeper Brooks Thomson, defenders Petar Cuic and Kaveh Rad, midfielders Jake Davis and Christian Duke, and forward Dominik Resetar.
Additionally, defender Danny Barbir is out of contract with the club, however Sporting KC II has extended an offer to the player and contract negotiations are ongoing.
Sporting KC II has declined contract options for defender Sam Raben, midfielder Duval Wapiwo and forwards Fredinho Mompremier and Jaret Townsend.
Goalkeeper Mitch Hildebrandt, defender Dillon Serna, midfielder Camden Riley and forward Will Little are out of contract with the club. Hildebrandt will return in 2021 for his second year as Sporting KC II’s goalkeeper coach.
The following eight Sporting KC Academy standouts were on Academy contracts with Sporting KC II in 2020: goalkeeper Gavin Krenecki; defenders Mason Leeth, Isaiah LeFlore and Kayden Pierre; midfielders Ryan Fessler, Jahon Rad and Bailey Sparks; and forward Josh Chong. Among them, Krenecki, LeFlore, Pierre and Sparks are age-eligible to continue playing for the Sporting KC Academy.

Since the club began play in 2016, Sporting KC II has advanced 11 players to the Sporting Kansas City first team. Of those 11 players, five are currently under MLS contract with the club: goalkeeper John Pulskamp, defender Jaylin Lindsey, forward Wilson Harris and midfielders Felipe Hernandez and Wan Kuzain.
After claiming Western Conference championships in 2016 and 2017 and returning to the playoffs in 2018, Sporting KC II has remained competitive in the USL Championship behind standout performances across a youthful roster. Nagamura’s side played 14 of 16 matches away from home in 2020 and fell narrowly short of the playoffs, thanks in part to eight goals from USL Championship Young Player of the Year Wilson Harris and additional contributions from fellow Academy products such as Davis, Thompson and Kaveh Rad.
