Sporting Kansas City will kick off the club's 2022 Major League Soccer campaign at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday with a road trip to face Atlanta United FC in Mercedes-Benz Stadium live on FS1 (English) and FOX Deportes (Spanish). The team's 27th season begins with the earliest regular season match in club history as Sporting looks for another strong start. The team's 15 season-opening wins and 10 victories in road openers are most all-time in MLS history.
In conjunction with the season opener, Sporting will host a State Line Block Party presented by Michelob Ultra and adidas on Sunday in the heart of West 39th Street in Kansas City. Festivities are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT - including live music, yard games and drink specials - and the watch party will feature a large LED screen for viewing #ATLvSKC at 2 p.m. CT. In addition, Sports Radio 810 WHB will kick off five hours of Sporting KC coverage with a Special Sporting Preview Show at noon on Sunday live from the fan event.
On Friday, No Other Pub in the Kansas City Power & Light District will welcome Sporting Kansas City supporters for a 2022 Season Kickoff Party beginning at 6 p.m. CT. The event will feature guest servers Nate Bukaty and Hartzell Gray, as well as free access to all games, a live DJ, a 360 photo booth and a complimentary drink ticket for the first 50 guests wearing Sporting gear.
Last week, Sporting Kansas City unveiled the club's new secondary jersey for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Fans can place pre-orders online at MLSstore.com, with 20% off orders until 10:59 p.m. CT on Thursday with the code 20MLS, or sign up to be notified by SportingStyle - and receive free jersey customization - when the kit is in stock at Children's Mercy Park.
A new edition of The Sporting KC Show will air on Sports Radio 810 WHB from 6-7 p.m. CT on Wednesday with hosts Nate Bukaty and Aly Trost. The Sporting KC Show Podcast is available on Spotify, iTunes and SportingKC.com, giving supporters a weekly destination to catch up on club storylines, player achievements, guest interviews and more.
Sporting Kansas City has signed seven new players since the end of the 2021 season and, like all 28 clubs in the league, will be required to be in compliance with MLS roster rules and regulations by the 7 p.m. CT deadline on Friday ahead of the regular season opening this weekend.
On Wednesday, Sporting KC II will conclude the team's preseason trip to Indianapolis with an exhibition match against fellow MLS NEXT Pro side Chicago Fire FC. The scrimmage will kick off at 10 a.m. CT and updates will be available from @SportingKCII on Twitter.
The Sporting Kansas City Academy U15's and U17's will also face Chicago Fire FC this week, playing a doubleheader of friendlies in Chicago on Saturday morning in preparation for the MLS NEXT season to resume.
