The Swope Park Rangers have signed goalkeeper Adrian Zendejas, the club announced on Thursday. Zendejas, who last played for Liga MX side Club Tijuana, will officially join the Rangers upon the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and once the Secondary Transfer Window opens on July 4.
“I’m very pleased to sign with the Swope Park Rangers and excited to start this new chapter in my life,” Zendejas said. “I look forward to a successful and rewarding career with the club.”
“Adrian is a young goalkeeper that has a lot of very good tools,” head coach Marc Dos Santos said. “This is an excellent opportunity for the club to keep Adrian around to see how he develops this season.”
Zendejas, 20, joined Club Tijuana in 2014 and made his debut for the Under-20 team on Feb. 13, 2015 against Pumas UNAM. He made one appearance in the 2015 U-20 Clausura before playing in 21 games in the Apertura later in the year, helping the Xolos reach the final. In 2016, Zendejas made nine appearances for the Tijuana U-20s in the Clausura and again helped his side to the final.
The Chula Vista, Calif. native made his first-team debut in a preseason friendly against Club Leon on July 3, 2015 at Cal State Fullerton – claiming a shutout 1-0 victory. Zendejas went on to play in all four preseason games for Tijuana in July 2015.
On April 26, 2016, Zendejas started for the Xolos U-20s in a friendly against the U.S. Under-18 National Team at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. His youth career includes a stint at Nomads SC in San Diego, Calif. while he also played for Hilltop High School in Chula Vista.
