At Children's Mercy Park, we are focused on establishing a circular economy through the food and beverage products we provide our fans. By emphasizing the importance of reusing and recycling existing products like our fiber plates, plastic cups, paper food products, and other materials, we create a closed-loop system where waste and resources are minimized. Our goal? To divert all waste from landfills during matchdays and events.

We partner with Huhtamaki to provide sustainable packaging solutions for all of our hospitality services at the stadium on and off matchdays.

Our compost is made up of organics (food waste) and Huhtamaki's products. We collect this waste in our fan-facing receptacles on the concourse and Premium Tower. Missouri Organic Recycling picks up the pre-compost before working it into serviceable compost that will be sold as soil or mulch to create healthier environments for Kansas City

Waste Management MRF

Our plastics are picked up by Waste Management twice a week and delivered to Waste Management's Kansas City Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), where they are sorted on-site to reduce contamination. These bails are then packaged up and delivered to other facilities that turn plastics into recycled goods. In 2023, Sporting KC recycled over 35 tons of plastics, cardboard, and other materials, which accounted for 17% of our total waste output at Children's Mercy Park.
