Entering the final month of the 2014-15 U.S. Soccer Development Academy campaign, the Sporting Kansas City Academy U-18's are in playoff position thanks to a nine-game unbeaten run. The squad kept the streak -- and their postseason pursuit -- alive with a 2-1 victory over Texans SC Houston on Saturday at Swope Soccer Village.
Alberto Sanchez opened the scoring in the 29th minute, giving him two goals in two games since joining the team from Monterrey, Mexico. Dominick Parry then netted the game-winning goal in the 35th minute with his sixth goal of the season, second most on the team.
The win propelled the Sporting KC U-18's (10-7-4, 5th place) past Texans SC Houston (11-9-2, 6th place) in the Frontier Division standings and above their opponents in the wildcard pool with six games remaining.
In the second match of Saturday's doubleheader, the Sporting KC Academy U-16's (4-7-10, 10th place) suffered their first loss of 2015 in a 2-0 defeat to Texans SC Houston (8-11-3, 8th place). The result ended a 10-game unbeaten streak and was the first loss for the U-16's since December 3rd.
Both teams will now return to the road next weekend for a pair of matches in Texas on back-to-back days. First up is a trip to San Antonio to face the Scorpions youth sides on Saturday before traveling to Austin to play Lonestar SC Academy on Sunday.
