Sporting Kansas City forward Daniel Salloi and manager Peter Vermes were justly recognized for their roles in a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday, earning spots on the MLS Team of the Week presented by Audi.
Salloi delivered a man of the match performance by scoring two first-half goals and assisting Felipe Hernandez's first career MLS strike in the 64th minute. The 24-year-old Sporting KC Academy product now ranks third in MLS with six goals this season and is tied for second with nine combined goals and assists.
Salloi's influential displays have helped Sporting to a league-leading 20 goals overall and a second-place position in the Western Conference table, four points behind Supporters' Shield leaders Seattle Sounders FC.
Team of the Week (3-5-2, left to right): Clement Diop (MTL) – DeJuan Jones (NE), Jack Elliott (PHI), Romain Metanire (MIN) – Franco Fragapane (MIN), Luke Haakenson (NSH), Carles Gil (NE), Cristian Roldan (SEA), Daniel Salloi (SKC) – Luis Nani (ORL), Carlos Vela (LAFC)
The managerial recipient for Week 9's best XI was Vermes, who on Wednesday night presided over his 400th MLS match (regular season and playoffs). He becomes the fourth MLS coach to reach that momentous milestone and the first to do so with a single club.
Sporting (6-3-2, 20 points) will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday when they host star-studded LAFC (3-3-3, 12 points) in a 4:30 p.m. CT showdown at Children's Mercy Park. A limited number of tickets for the match are available at SeatGeek.com and the contest will be shown live nationally on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and the ESPN app. Listeners can also catch local broadcasts on Sports Radio 810 WHB (English) and La Grande 1340 AM (Spanish).
