Sporting Kansas City winger Gerso Fernandes and midfielder Ilie Sanchez attended the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway on Sunday, participating in a host of activities both before and during the race.
Both players took part in Hot Laps to kick off the day, which entails a high-speed ride around the track in a Toyota pace car. Up next was a tour of the pits and the garage area prior to the arrival of the teams involved in the race.
Both players then headed to the Toyota Suite, where Gerso and Ilie heard decorated NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin speak to the group before posing for a photo (pictured above). Hamlin would go on to win the Hollywood Casino 400 in a dramatic conclusion, solidifying his spot in the next round of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.
At the start of the race, the Sporting duo took their seats on the pit box of Kyle Busch, taking in the sights and sounds of the race from close proximity. At the conclusion of Stage One, Gerso and Ilie headed to Hamlin's pit box for a live-on-air interview alongside Kansas City Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman and former Kansas City Royals star Billy Butler.
With their media obligations completed, it was back up to the Toyota Suite for a bite to eat and an optimal vantage point to enjoy the remainder of the race.
