On Wednesday, U.S. MNT head coach Gregg Berhalter met with media following the announcement of the tournament's group stage schedule and discussed the Group D match-ups for the reigning Gold Cup champions.
On the United States' three opponents in Group D…
I think it’s a challenging group. I think there are going to be some good opponents. It’s going to prepare us. We know that when we get through this group, we’ll be prepared for what’s next.
On the U.S. MNT playing in Kansas City, Minneapolis and Cleveland…
One of the positive sides for the fans of us having a difficult group is they’re going to see some good games. I think that fans should be excited that we’re in a strong group. Three of the teams in our group played in The Hex qualifying round. They should be ready and prepared for some good games.
On Panama…
Panama has athleticism. When they play in a low block, they can be difficult to break down as we’ve seen when we’ve played them.
On Trinidad and Tobago…
Trinidad is an athletic team. They have a good team spirit and some good dynamic players.
On Guyana…
I know that they have a large population of their players playing in England in League One and Two. I know the coach is a long time pro in England and I know he’s going to get that team to compete. It’s going to be a team with a lot of spirit.
On the team's tactical approach to the group stage…
We’re going to have to be smart when we play against these opponents and we’re going to have to be balanced. Hopefully we’ll be able to circulate the ball to break them down and create goal scoring opportunities.
