Something's got to give Sunday when Sporting Kansas City hosts the Colorado Rapids in a nationally televised showdown on FS1. Manager Peter Vermes' men are one game shy of tying the longest home unbeaten streak in club regular season history, but in order to match that milestone achievement, they'll have to take points off a plucky Rapids side that has won each of the last five meetings.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT Sunday and tickets are available at SeatGeek.com, including a limited-time Family 4 Pack. We offer a statistical breakdown in our By The Numbers preview...

Head-to-head

  • Sporting KC has lost five straight regular season meetings to Colorado since August 2015, tied for the second-longest losing streak to a single opponent in club history.
  • Colorado swept the 2016 series with three one-goal victories, scoring the game-winner after the 75th minute on each occasion.
  • Sporting KC went 11 games unbeaten against Colorado in MLS between 2009 and 2015 (6-0-5 including playoffs) before its current losing streak started.
  • Sporting KC is an impressive 18-5-5 against Colorado at home in the regular season, but has lost the last two meetings at Children's Mercy Park.
  • Between September 2002 and June 2015, the Rapids went 0-10-5 in 15 visits to Kansas City (including playoffs).
  • Sporting KC will meet Colorado for the 73rd time in all competitions on Sunday, making the Rapids the most frequent opponent in Kansas City history. Sporting KC leads the series 29-27-16, including a 23-22-13 regular season mark.
  • Sporting KC forward Dom Dwyer has three goals in eight MLS appearances against the Rapids, including an equalizer in a 2-1 defeat at Children's Mercy Park last April.
