Pinnacle, the $75 million training center opened by Sporting Kansas City last year, is among 25 construction projects completed in 2018 that has been selected by the Kansas City Business Journal’s judging panel to receive a prestigious Capstone Award, honoring the best new developments in the metropolitan area.
The Kansas City Business Journal announced their Capstone Award winners today and Pinnacle is one of three recipients in the architectural design category, becoming the fourth Sporting Kansas City facility to receive the award in the last eight years.

Populous, the architect behind Pinnacle, and Sporting Kansas City will be presented the Capstone Award during a reception on March 26 at the InterContinental Kansas City on the Plaza.
The ceremony will be one of two in the month of March in which Pinnacle is showcased and honored. The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute will celebrate Pinnacle as one of 17 winning projects across North America in the 2019 PCI Design Awards program during the PCI Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 1.
Pinnacle broke ground in July 2016 and opened a year ago today with Sporting Kansas City's first training session at the world-class facility, which features five fields spread over more than 50 acres and cutting-edge amenities inside an 81,100 square foot complex.
Sporting Kansas City shares the site with U.S. Soccer and Children's Mercy through a first-of-its-kind collaboration between a professional sports team, a national sports federation and a first-class sports medicine provider.
Pinnacle hosted more than 700 coaches during 44 U.S. Soccer Coaching Education courses in 2018, in addition to numerous other events for instructors, administrators, referees and players, including training camps for the U.S. Under-17 Women's National Team, U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team and the full U.S. Women's National Team.
Children's Mercy saw over 600 new physical therapy patients in 2018 at Pinnacle and conducted more than 5,500 visits for physical therapy as well as over 1,200 clinic visits with their sports medicine physicians at the Children's Mercy Sports Medicine Center.
