Sporting Kansas City and Johnny’s Tavern announce partnership

Sporting KC Johnnys Tavern

Sporting Kansas city announced on Tuesday a partnership with Johnny’s Tavern to make the Kansas City-area tavern the official watch party location of Sporting Kansas City away matches.

“We are excited to partner with Sporting Kansas City for the 2014 season,” said Kyle Witherspoon, Owner of Johnny’s Tavern. “Johnny’s Tavern has made our restaurant and bar a home to sports fans alike. Sporting Kansas City has made soccer a reason to celebrate and tradition for our city.”

Both locally based companies, Johnny’s Tavern and Sporting Kansas City make a natural fit for a partnership. Johnny’s Tavern is the home base for the KC Cauldron, Sporting Kansas City’s largest supporters group, and the Kansas City chapter of American Outlaws. Johnny’s Tavern provides Sporting Kansas City fans the opportunity to watch away matches in the company of other Sporting Kansas City fans at any of the nine Johnny’s locations throughout the Kansas City and Lawrence, Kan. areas.

“We are thrilled to make Johnny’s our official watch party destination.  They have always been a great place for soccer enthusiasts, so partnering with them was a perfect fit.  It will be a great place for all of our fans to watch each and every moment of the 2014 Sporting Kansas City season,” said Jake Reid, Chief Revenue Officer of Sporting Kansas City and Sporting Club.

Sporting Kansas City, the 2013 MLS Cup champions, begin their season on March 8 at the Seattle Sounders. Join Sporting Kansas City at the Johnny’s Tavern in the Power and Light District (1310 Grand Boulevard, Kansas City, MO) for the team's official watch party as Sporting KC kicks off the 2014 MLS season at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday live on NBCSN. A Sporting KC player will be in attendance to join supporters for the opening match.
