Sporting Kansas City has signed 21-year-old Macissé Diop as the club’s official eMLS competitor. Diop will represent Sporting KC in national and global EA Sports FIFA 19 events throughout the 2019 season.
Diop, who owns the gamer tag OvO6IX and attends Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, became a competitive FIFA gamer in 2017. He competed in two FIFA Ultimate Team FUT Champions regional tournaments that year, securing a top-16 finish in Miami and a top-eight finish in Vancouver, before placing second at the FIFA 18 Philadelphia Union Cup.
More recently, Diop traveled to Bucharest, Romania, last month for the FUT Champions Cup, a tournament that involved 64 of the top FIFA gamers in the world. He has earned several top-100 finishes over the past three years on the FUT Champions circuit and currently sits at No. 46 in the FIFA 19 Global Series Rankings of the world’s best FIFA players.
A well-traveled soccer fan, Diop was born in Boston to Senegalese parents and spent his early childhood in Dakar, Senegal. He pursued competitive soccer at a young age, playing for the prestigious Diambars FC soccer academy in Senegal, before moving with his family to Johannesburg, South Africa. After deciding to prioritize academic studies over the sport, Diop focused on gaming to quench his thirst for competitive soccer.
Diop graduated from the French International High School in Johannesburg in 2015, the same year he moved to the United States to begin his college studies at Rutgers.
