With only a week remaining in January Camp, Bruce Arena is left with difficult decisions as he narrows his roster down to the 23 players that will participate in the upcoming friendlies. From there, Arena the task doesn't get any easier as the new U.S. MNT head coach will need to select a squad that can pick up two crucial results in World Cup qualifying matches in March.
Two Sporting KC players are currently with the national team trying to catch the eye of Arena. Much has been written of Benny Feilhaber, who made his return to the national team pool after a three-year hiatus. Graham Zusi, however, has been one of the most consistent players in the red, white and blue since earning his first cap more than five years ago.
That first match came in a January Camp friendly against Venezuela on January 21, 2012. Only four days later, Zusi etched his name on the scoresheet when he tallied the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Panama on January 25. Since then, the 2014 World Cup veteran has been a mainstay for U.S. Soccer with 42 international appearances, five goals and six assists.
