Forward Kharlton Belmar signed for Sporting KC in September 2017 from USL affiliate Swope Park Rangers.
2018: MLS regular season: Made four substitute appearances (65 minutes played). Made his 2018 debut in a 1-0 loss to the New England Revolution on April 28. Open Cup: Started and played 90 minutes in a 2-0 fourth-round win over Real Salt Lake on June 6, scoring his first Sporting KC goal in the 74th minute after assisting Johnny Russell's opener in the 47th minute. MLS Cup Playoffs: Did not feature. Swope Park Rangers: Scored 11 goals for the Rangers and earned USL Player of the Month honors for March.
2017: MLS regular season: Made one substitute appearance (6 minutes played). Made his MLS debut as a second-half substitute in a 2-1 loss at the Houston Dynamo on Oct. 11. Open Cup: Made his Sporting KC debut as a late substitute in a 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo in the Round of 16 on June 28. MLS Cup Playoffs: Did not feature. Swope Park Rangers: Led SPR with a club-record 15 goals during the 2017 USL campaign.
2016: Belmar played in 25 games for Portland Timbers 2, adding three goals and placed second on the team with three assists. Came off the bench in the season opener against the Swope Park Rangers to record an assist on Nick Besler’s consolation goal on March 26. Scored his first goal of the season with the only goal of the game against Sacramento Republic FC on April 17 before adding another game-winner in a 2-0 win over Tulsa Roughnecks FC on April 23. Assisted on the opening goal of the game in a 3-1 win over Real Monarchs on May 7 before notching his third assist of the season on May 20 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. Scored his third and final goal of the season with an 87th-minute equalizer against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on July 7.
2015: Belmar made 28 appearances, scoring a team-best 12 goals while being tied for the team-lead with three assists for Portland Timbers 2 on his way to being named USL Rookie of the Year. Scored two goals – including the game-winner – on his professional debut against Real Monarchs on March 29 before adding his third goal in the opening two games of the season against Sacramento Republic FC on April 2. Belmar recorded his second brace with the only goals against Arizona United SC on April 25. He was named USL Player of the Week after that performance. He had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 victory over Tulsa Roughnecks FC on May 30. Notched his second assist of the season against the Austin Aztex on June 14 before adding his seventh goal against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 a week later on June 21. Opened the scoring against Arizona United SC with his eighth goal of the season on July 2 and added his ninth in a 4-2 win over Whitecaps FC 2 on July 19, where he also added his third assist. Produced his third two-goal performance of the year in a 3-1 victory against Vancouver on Aug. 16 before scoring his 12th and final goal of the season on Aug. 22 with the game-winner against the Roughnecks. Belmar earned USL Rookie of the Year and All-League Second Team honors at the conclusion of the season. After the USL season, Belmar made one appearance while on loan at the New York Cosmos of the NASL, coming in 3-0 win over the Atlanta Silverbacks on Oct. 7.
College: Belmar attended college in his home state at Virginia Commonwealth University. He scored 18 goals and added five assists in 76 appearances for the Rams and was named an All-Atlantic 10 First Team selection as a junior and senior. Belmar played for USL Premier Development League sides Mississippi Brilla (2012) and the Portland Timbers U-23s (2014) while at college. Belmar finished the 2014 USL PDL season with eight goals and one assist in 14 games for Portland, garnering PDL All-Western Conference honors and was named Timbers U-23s Player of the Year.
