GoalkeeperSporting Kansas City selected goalkeeper Ryan Schewe as the 22nd overall pick in the first round of MLS SuperDraft 2024. In two outstanding seasons as a starter at Georgetown University from 2022-2023, Schewe posted a 20-4-4 record with a 0.79 goals against average, 12 clean sheets and 86 saves. He enjoyed a breakout season as a junior in 2022, landing Second Team All-BIG EAST recognition after leading the conference in save percentage (.838) and shutouts (seven) en route to an 11-2-1 record. Spent his first season with Sporting mostly with SKC II in MLS NEXT Pro, posting a 5-5-4 record with two shutouts and saving three penalty kicks in his rookie campaign.
During his senior year in 2023, Schewe propelled the Hoyas to the BIG EAST regular season championship with a 9-2-3 record and led the conference with the lowest goals against average (0.84) and the most shutouts (five). He punctuated his final college campaign with BIG East Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST honors while also receiving United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-East Region accolades.
In addition to playing for Georgetown, Schewe competed as an amateur for Georgia club Apotheos FC of the National Premier Soccer League in 2022 and the New York-based Westchester Flames of USL League Two in 2023. At the youth level, the Georgia native spent three years each with the Atlanta United Academy and United Football Academy in his home state.
PROFESSIONAL
2024: Signed with Sporting KC on Feb. 5 after being selected 22nd overall in the first round of the 2024 MLS SuperDraft. MLS Regular Season: Did not feature. Open Cup: Did not feature. Leagues Cup: Did not feature. MLS NEXT Pro: Started 14 matches for Sporting KC II in MLS NEXT Pro, posting a 1.85 goals against average and two shutouts in his rookie campaign while saving three penalty kicks and helping the team to a 5-5-4 record. Made his professional debut in SKC II's season opening 2-1 road victory at Houston Dynamo 2 on March 17, saving Diego Gonzalez's penalty in the second half. Recorded his first shutout in a 4-0 home win over Houston 2 on April 14 before saving further penalty kicks in a 2-0 road loss to St. Louis 2 on June 23 and a 4-3 road loss to Tacoma Defiance on July 7. Posted his second shutout of the season in the 4-0 road victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Aug. 31.
