The United States U-17 Men's National Team bowed out of the FIFA U-17 World Cup with a 4-1 defeat to England on Saturday at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, India.
St. Louis native Josh Sargent struck for the U.S. in the late stages, but a handful of earlier goals for England were enough to dash American dreams of a first-ever semifinal appearance in the U-17 World Cup.
Sporting Kansas City homegrown signing Jaylin Lindsey was sidelined for the second straight game with a concussion after starting each of the Americans' three group-stage matches, including shutout wins against India and Ghana. His defensive absence was felt early on Saturday as England's Rhian Brewster scored twice in the first 14 minutes. Morgan Gibbs-White added a third for Three Lions in the 64th minute, but the U.S. continued to battle and grabbed one back through Sargent on 72 minutes. Brewster completed his hat-trick with a stoppage-time penalty kick.
The 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup marks the end of Lindsey's extremely successful stint at the U.S. U-17 level. The defender has played more than 25 matches for the U.S. U-17s over the last two years, including a standout showing at the 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship this spring where he earned tournament Best XI honors.
Lindsey will officially join Sporting KC's roster on Jan. 1, 2018 and turn 18 years old on March 27.
