If you're from Kansas City, to know the Chiefs is to love the Chiefs.
Such is the case for Sporting Kansas City captain and defender Matt Besler, a native of Overland Park who has grown up as a Chiefs diehard.
As the city's NFL team plays for its first Super Bowl title in 50 years on Sunday, Besler was among the several local sports stars, celebrities, entertainers and politicians who reflected on their love for the Chiefs in a Kansas City Star feature story.
“Watching the win against Houston as an athlete, with seven of my teammates, I couldn’t help but notice two things in particular about this special Chiefs team," Besler said in the article. "The first was the tremendous enjoyment that every Chiefs player displays on the field. We saw firsthand the passion they have for the sport, the passion they have to compete and the passion they have to represent Kansas City and its amazing fans.
"The second thing that stood out to me: confidence. They’ve shown it all season long. No matter who they play, where they play or what the score is, this Chiefs team believes it can win. They’re not afraid of anyone.”
Needless to say, Besler and the rest of Chiefs Kingdom will be locked in at 5:30 p.m. CT on Sunday when Kansas City battles the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV on FOX.
