Team of the Week: Graham Zusi shines in defeat of San Jose

His stunning golazo may have stolen the headlines — and fairly so â€” but it was a comprehensive performance from Sporting Kansas City right back Graham Zusi that has landed him a spot on MLSsoccer.com's Team of the Week.

In addition to finding the top corner with a brilliant long-range blast in the second half of Saturday's 3-2 win over the San Jose Earthquakes, Zusi led all players with three chances created and 86 touches. He also made five interceptions and won seven duels as Sporting KC moved into a tie for first place atop the Western Conference.

Zusi, who on Saturday became the seventh player in club history to log 20,000 minutes across all competitions, is the second member of Sporting KC to receive MLS Team of the Week accolades this season. Felipe Gutierrez garnered the honor in Week 2 and almost notched back-to-back appearances, settling instead for a spot on the Week 3 bench. The Chilean international was stellar throughout the night and effectively sealed the victory with a 68th-minute strike from outside the box to become the first Sporting KC player ever to score three goals in his first three MLS regular season appearances for the club.

Manager Peter Vermes' men will look for a third straight win this weekend when they travel to face the Colorado Rapids (0-1-0, 0 points) at 8 p.m. CT Saturday. FOX Sports Kansas City and FOX Sports Midwest Plus will air three hours of live coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. CT as two MLS charter members square off at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

All supporters are welcome to attend the official watch party for Saturday's match at No Other Pub in the Kansas City Power & Light District (1370 Grand Blvd.). Starting at 7:30 p.m. CT, No Other Pub will offer $4 Bud Light drafts as well as an all-inclusive buffet package with bottomless domestic draft beers for $30.
